Causative Verbs
-make someone to do action/ let a person
How to make causative verb.

(I)飲みます
(II)教えます
(III)します
来ます
POLITE FORM
(I)飲ませます
(II)教えさせます
(III)させます
来させます
PLAIN FORM
(I)飲ませる
(II)教えさせる
(III)させる
来させる
Note:
All causative verbs are Group 2 verbs. They conjugate into a dictionary form ない- form て-form.
Example:
食べさせる、食べさせない、食べさせて

Causative verb sentences
2 types of causative sentence
1. Those which indicate the subject of an action with を
2. Those which indicate it with に
- When verb is intransitive を is used.
- When verb is transitive に is used.
N(person) を V (intransitive) causative – make/ let a person
V intransitive
Examples:
1. 先生 は 学生 を 教室 へ 行かさせます。
2. 私 は 皆さん を 質問 に 答えさせます。
3. 私 は 子ども を 遊ばせます。

N(person)に N を V(transitive)causative Make / let a person V (transitive verb) Example: 1. 先生 は 学生 に 質問 に 答え を させます。 Usage of causative
- Indicate compulsion or permission.
- Used when the relationship between a senior person and a junior person is very clear.
Examples:
* Parents to child
* Elder brother to younger brother
* Superior to subordinate
Compulsion
Example:
1. 先生 は 研修生 を 体育館 へ 行かせます。

Permission
Example:
1. 私 は 息子 を 自由 に 遊ばせます。

V causative て- form いただきます
Would you please let me do.
L-26 – V て-form いただきませんか – which is used to request someone to do something.
V causative て- form いただきませんか - on the other hand is used to seek permission.

Examples:
1. すみませんが… この 機械 の 使い方 を 教えて いただきませんか。
Would you / Can you please teach me how to use this machine.
2. 友達 と 映画 を 見る約束 が あるので 早く 家 へ 帰らせて いただきませんか?
...ええ、、いい ですよ。
Because we have an appointment to watch movie with my friend would you please let me go home earlier.
